Using Emotional Freedom Technique to calm fears and phobias.

Updated: May 9, 2019

Do you have or know someone who has an irrational fear or phobia?

Is there a little creature, environment or place that just gives you the creeps or worse has you shaking, sweating, screaming and makes you want to run for your life?

A phobia is something that creates an excessive, intense or irrational fear that cause you to avoid certain objects, creatures, situations or activities. there's little or no danger but your fear is so great that it becomes a phobia and it starts to interfere with everyday life.

Experiencing phobias can be an overwhelming, frightening and isolating experience.

EFT can help you to manage your feelings and often when applied by a trained practitioner can help you overcome the phobia.

FIVE STEPS TO KICK START CHANGE

STEP 1 – TAKE TIME TO NOTICE

What happens immediately before your thought or reaction. Write it down and see if a pattern forms. Is it stress? Just a habit? Identify the trigger and then tap to reduce the feeling.

STEP 2 – GET FOCUSED

When I work with clients we focus on four elements that make up their story.

  1. The symptoms or side effects of your situation now.

  1. The emotions that come up for you.

  1. The events – the things people have said to you, experiences.

  1. Beliefs turned into facts – What you have made your experiences mean.

STEP 3 – THE GOOD, THE BAD AND......?

Good things - Write down 5 good things about this behaviour

Bad things - Now write down 5 bad things about this behaviour.

STEP 4 -MINDMAP

Have you ever created a mindmap? Don't worry a list will do but the important thing is to map your flow of ideas around your thinking as you focus on the steps above. You're creating your Tapping Map. The whys and whens supporting your current way of thinking or reacting. Then using EFT, focus on each aspect, event and belief and keep tapping until you no longer feel or think that way.

Yes it will take time and effort but if you are committed to stop, starting by understanding your behaviour is the first habit changing step.
